about
“Hand me Down the Moon” is Eoin Jordan’s third release as a solo artist. Written by Eoin, it documents a point in a person’s journey where they feel lost, and find themselves seeking guidance. The expression “Hand me Down the Moon” was once a commonly used one in Eoin’s native Cork, used to describe tall thin people. It is also the title track of his debut solo album, released in mid-2022.
Recording took place in De Bunker Studio, East Cork with Dave O’Connell at the controls. It features Pedal Steel wizard David Murphy (John Blek & The Rats, The Delines, The Lost Brothers) who adds a beautiful Americana sheen to the track, and also renowned artist/ musician Anthony Ruby who pulls it back across the Atlantic with his stunning Low Whistle playing. Chris McCarthy, a highly regarded bass player in Jazz circles, locks down the bottom end, while East Cork based singer Gráinne Gormley beautifully compliments Eoin’s vocal with her dulcet tones.
“Hand me Down the Moon” is a piece of work which Eoin is immensely proud to present to the public. Continuing his journey into the world of the singer songwriter, he hopes that you will join him on the way.
lyrics
Hand me Down the Moon (Eoin Jordan)
When all that was right turned out to be wrong, those thoughts you had carried along
Opinions dispatched from the moral high ground with a look that would cut you in two
Like Damascus of old in view something came along right out of the blue
It knocked you off your feet, took the wind out of you
Now you’re lost and it’s all gone askew
Hand me Down the Moon, won’t you Hand me Down the Moon
Please shine a light on my way
I’m not looking for the North Star or St Christopher
Please won’t you Hand me Down the Moon
A journey begins and so it must end, we go with the ebb and the flow
Our course is not set but a favouring wind might take us where we want to go
Our destination might not be on a chart or where you in tended right back at the start
We’re at the mercy of the elements from the word go,
And the rain, the ice and the snow
Hand me Down the Moon, won’t you Hand me Down the Moon
Please shine a light on my way
I’m not looking for the North Star or St Christopher
Please won’t you Hand me Down the Moon
